Wrexham Parish Church "St Giles" stained glass window
« on: Monday 08 December 14 10:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
I'm hoping there might be someone out there who is able/willing to go to St Giles church in Wrexham and take a photo of the stained east window - it was presented by Mr Edwin Wyatt as a memorial to his wife Marie nee MacKellar - daughter of Admiral John MacKellar. She died in 1866 - I'm not sure when the window was completed.
Merry christmas and many thanks  :-*

Hi

I'm a bit perplexed because the history of St Giles states:

Quote
The three altar windows were designed by Sir Thomas Jackson in 1914 and executed by James Powell & Son. The east window behind the altar depicts the Jesse Tree and is dedicated to the memory of Sir Robert Egerton. The window immediately to the left of the altar is dedicated to the memory of John Allington Hughes, while the one to the right, behind the choir stalls, is in memory of the Reverend George Cunliffe, vicar of Wrexham 1826-75.

Are you sure it was an East window?

I'm just wondering about the dates here. The article that you refer to was written possibly before 1914 (it refers to the population of Wrexham in the  1891 census).  There doesn't seem to be any mention of Mr Wyatt in the History of the Church that I referred to  :-\

Yes Edwin died in 1876 ten years after the death of his wife , so I'm guessing the window would have been erected some time in those ten years  .. perhaps it was replaced .. sad  :'(

I see there is a death announcement in the Wrexham Weekly Advertizer Jan 27 1866. She died on 24th at her sister's residence in Norland Square, London.

I'll see if I can find any more about the window in the newspapers.
