HELP!
« on: Thursday 11 December 14 20:28 GMT (UK) »
I landed here when I did a Google search for one of my relatives.  HELP!  I have NO idea what I'm doing or how to do it :(  BUT this looks like a great tool, especially since my ancestors are from Ireland and England - my maternal family having come here to Canada only a year prior to my birth!  I just don't know how to use the site :(
I am at a loss with my maternal grandfather, George Scott, born 1918 in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England.  He and my grandmother divorced after they had my mom, Carol, and no one heard from him afterwards. :(  I have had someone help me find his parents - based on the address that my grandfather listed on his and my grandmother's marriage certificate - but even that has been a dead end.  I sure could use some help! :)
Thanks!

Hi, welcome to Rootschat. It does look confusing at first but you will soonn get used to it and people are always ready to help.

Can you give us the names of his parents and I'm sure someone will find them.

There are two George Scotts born Dewsbury in 1918, do you know which is yours?

Scott    George    mother's maiden name Johnson    Dewsbury    9b   793

Dec quarter 1918

Thanks so much!
His parents were George Scott 1889-1964 and Esther Atkinson 1895-?  They were married in 1915 in Yorkshire West Riding, England.  I have more information but I'm not sure whether it's a help or hindrance to list it.

I have that info. so far (I'm sorry, I should have said!) but I can't find ANYTHING on Annie - if she married, did she have children... nothing. Nor can I figure out if my father (George Scott jr) remarried after my grandmother (Mary Burton). She thinks he went to Egypt (and I agree - I found one of his dad's wife's relatives had gone there during the war and there was a comment in someone's public family tree on ancestry.com that said that they saw George jr IN Egypt when they were stationed there.  But beyond that, I got nuthin' :(

ok - so are you wanting to look forward rather than back?

If so, it might be difficult for us to help as we cannot name people who may still be living.
