Lacey of Dunbur Wicklow
« on: Sunday 14 December 14 14:59 GMT (UK) »
Hallo,
I am trying to trace my family tree in Wicklow, Ireland.
Does anyone have information on the Lacey family in Dunbur? I think Michael Kavanagh married Jane Lacey around 1860. Her sister may have been Margaret Lacey spinster born around 1841 and living in Dunbur Head in 1901 and 1911 and dying in 1918. She may be sister to Joseph Lacey born 1833 and Bridget Lacey born 1829 also living in Dunbur Head.
There seem to be many Lac(e)y's and Kavanaghs in Wicklow but fewer in Dunbur,

Hi,
Michael Kavanagh seems to have lived and died in Dunbur (in 1894) and his son John (b 1865) took over the Dunbur farm. However, he had at least two other children (Mary b 1869 and Michael b 1871) and they could have moved to other places?

Hi, names are confusing!
The nearest town is Wicklow. If you look at the map Dunbur is the bit that sticks out into the sea just below Wicklow town. There are 3 Dunbur townlands: Dunbur Head, Dunbur Lower and Dunbur Upper. They are part of the Church of Ireland parish Kilpoole and Barony Arklow and County Wicklow. They are part of the Roman Catholic parish of Wicklow. in some of the documents they are written 'Dunbar', but that is an error,

OK - found it on Maplandia
you will see how close Ashford is on this map - so it looks like Michael and Jane did move to Ashford for at least 13 years

For the record - I live in Garston,Liverpool - nicknamed "Little Wicklow " many many people from Wicklow and Rathnew and surrounding villages settled here in Garston ....and we go regularly to Wicklow Town - Rathnew etc for people to see relatives
there are Lacey and Kavanagh families here in Garston ..
 :)
that's why I was interested in the thread ...my own son lives in Saggart and I go every year ... love the Wicklow people

oh that's interesting.
What is the background for Michael and Jane were at Ashford?
I did find in LDS that their children Michael and John were noted as baptised at ASHFORD, WICK, IRE, but wasn't sure if that was just the nearest registry or church?
I am not familiar with that part of Ireland,
