Hello again Colin.  Just to round this off, I did get the entry of death and the details could hardly have been better:-
Date 4 May 1860
Place Roseville, Coseley
Age 54 years
Cause scirrhus pylorus some time - this is a cancer of the digestive system
Informant x the mark of Sarah Harper present at the death Broad Street, Mamble Square, Sedgley.

I don't know how or if Miss Harper was related, but she was at worst a near neighbour in 1851 and it could be that she was nursing him through his illness.  At least one family member was born at Mamble Square, so I've no doubt this is the right John Brown.

Season's Greetings
Dion.

Thanks, Clive.  Couldn't see the wood for the trees.  Elizth was formerly Harper and it looks like Sarah was her mother.  The age gap seems too great, but in 1851 she is shown with a daughter Lucy age 20.

Thanks once again
Dion
