Malcolm MacKinnon
« on: Sunday 14 December 14 23:18 GMT (UK) »
My name is Susan Masters.
My great grandfathers' name was Malcolm MacKinnon. He passed away December 3, 1916 in Montreal, Canada and was buried in Mount Royal Cemetery. He came from Scotland, I don't know  who his wife or his parents were. He had 3 children in born in Canada. Malcolm (MJ), George and Bernard. If anyone could help I would  appreciate it.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat!  :)
Your first avenue of research is to find and purchase a birth certificate for one of the children. The mother's name should be on there. From there, you have more info to be able to hopefully find a marriage (if they married in Canada).
Also, what about Malcolm's death certificate? That could have information about his wife, birthplace, and/or length of time in Canada.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but I am not too familiar with Canadian records.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Thank you for your assistance. I will try to see if I can find a birth certificate for his kids. I don't have Malcolms' death certificate.  I was told that there wasn't very good record keeping back then.

How old was he when he died, and when were the children born (and where?).

Thank-you

Hi Su,

Can you please post all relevant details such as Malcolm's age & profession on death, informant of his death & anything else e.g. addresses.

The more info. we have the more chance of locating his ancestors  ;)

MacKinnon is an Isle of Skye name although they were spread out too.

I'm guessing he may have been an immigrant of the 1850's?

That's OK.

Just want to know if he was really old when he died, or some extra information to help identify.
