John Charles Hopewell
« on: Monday 15 December 14 15:48 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on JOHN CHARLES HOPEWELL. He was born in 1887, where unknown. He enlisted in WW1 in 1915 at the age of18. He was in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light
Infantry. He was then killed in WW1 and in a newspaper article it was said that his parents were Alan and Edith HOPEWELL.  From the information I have got, this was just about impossible. If anyone can shed any light on this puzzle, I would be delighted to hear from them. :)

From the information I have got, this was just about impossible.

Could you give us more detail about the information you have?

FreeBMD has a birth for John Charles Hopewell, Sep qtr 1887, Leicester vol 7a p196 - is this him?
Have you found him on a census?

I can't see a marriage for Alan Hopewell and Edith, but in Mar qtr 1884 Nottingham vol 7b p426 on the same page are Edith Annie Page and George Hopewell - I can't find a more likely marriage on a preliminary search.

All the best
Philip

I can't find a match for John Hopewell on the CWGC list.  Do you have any details on when and where he died?  There is a Charles Hopewell pte 201049 KOYLI died 10/03/1917 and a 2/Lt Charles Hopewell KOYLI died 24/03/1918

I have just spotted a problem: in your first post you wrote that he was born in 1887 and joined up in 1915 at the age of 18.  There is a ten year discrepancy here.  Could you check this?

There is a marriage of Alan Hopewell to Edith Collinson in 1910 in Wakefield.

Have a look for them on 1911 census.

Are you sure that John Charles wasnt in WW2 not WW1? !
