Where do I start?

Hi there,  this is my first step into Canadian research and I have no idea where to start. On behalf of a friend, I am trying to locate what should be the recent death of a cousin (probably in the past 2 years). As I can't confirm her death, I won't name her but her last address was in Courtenay, British Columbia. Are there any online searches I could try?

Additionally, her son, Jamie Anderson, died in the mid 1990s at the age of 21. I'm hoping that if I can find his grave I might find his mother.

Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the death records only go to 1993 - otherwise that might have given you the place of burial for Jamie.

Have you tried looking at http://www.canada411.ca/  ?

You could try doing Google searches of variations on the name of the possibly deceased cousin, possibly including the name of the town "Courtenay" and see if an obituary comes up. 

It is also possible to do an obituary search at http://www.inmemoriam.ca, which allows you to access obituaries from recent years.

Hi Nettie,

If you know the location in BC I would contact the local public library to request obit lookout. I would do same for Aanncouver public libraty, I hear they have a fantastic genealogy depart and they would carry most of the BC newspapers in their archives.
