John Meehan born c1870 passenger list Ireland to Canada
« on: Tuesday 16 December 14 17:59 GMT (UK) »
John Meehan was born in Ireland c1870 and emmigrated firstly to Canada and then onto Maine, USA. I am trying to find his birth record and also and passenger lists showing his arrival in Canada or the USA. Here is what I know;
He married Catherine Roorke in Halifax, Nova Scotia 30 April 1888. His parents are listed as John and Bridget (would love information on them too, have not found them on any census records)
On the 1900 USA census he is in Portland, Maine as a boarder in the Mcgrath household. His birthday is listed as May 1868, immigration year 1883
On the 1910 USA census he is also in Portland, Maine with his wife Catherine and son John. His birth year is now 1870
Again, he is with wife Catherine in 1920 in Portland with birth year 1870 and immigration year 1882
Thank you for taking the time to look at my request ID

His age is a little off, but is this them in the 1930 census?  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XM8L-17B

If that's him, there appear to be burials for him & Katherine here at Calvary Cemetery with a matching address of 117 Pearl Street:  http://portlanddiocese.org/genealogy  It gives John's age as 62 years 9 months 7 days as of his death date of 15 Jun. 1934.  There is a burial for John B. Meehan that seems to fit his son's age.

Hello Shelly, I had seen that census enrty but discounted it due to age being out. But if the address is the same as the burial it seems it could well be correct and the age is wrong on the census.
I will have a look for the granddaughters birth and parents to see if they provide any more clues.
Thank you ID

Marriage record in Halifax, N.s. gives John's parents as John & Bridget

So I have found this entry;

Mary Meehan married Frank A Currier 23 April 1906, Portland, Maine

1940 census shows Mary as a widow born in Canada 1886 living with son John and daughter Katherine

Cannot find a birth in Canada for Mary with the correct parents

There are some possible matches for burials for the Curriers in the Calvary Cemetery database.  I think these may be deaths for Mary Currier:

Thanks Shelly, those give her DOB as when John was only 15/16! And almost 3 years prior to his marriage to Catherine. Still no furthur forward with Johns parents, these are my most troublesome ancesters to date
Thanks again ID
