Unable to find a birth record.
« on: Monday 22 December 14 20:50 GMT (UK) »
Please can anyone help.  My great grandmother was called Annie Floris, I have a copy of her marriage certificate.  Unfortunately I am unable to find any birth records for her.  According to the 1881, 1891,1901 she was born in 1877, also her marriage her marriage certificate of October 1908 says she was 30.  We have some of her other siblings birth certificates, but have found birth records for them all.  Would she have had to produce a birth certificate to get married?  She married at Nottingham registry office, but according to the census was for in Burton upon Trent.  I have hit a huge brick wall and don't know which way to turn next.

If anyone has any ideas how to brake this brick wall down, I will be very grateful.

Many thanks

Nikki :)

Hi Nikki,
I can't see any Annie Floris around that time, with any spelling variation. By any chance was she the eldest child?
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Hi Nikki,

Have you managed to find birth records for Mary(1872) and William(1875) Floris who are Annie's elder siblings?

No, not as far as I know at that time.

Very odd, I cant see any registration either and it isn't as if she was the eldest or youngest child.

The first birth registration I can see for the Floris family is Cornelias (1879). What is also puzzling is that there doesn't appear to be a marriage of William Floris to Ann (as per 1881). However he does marry in 1890 to Julia Brannan after the death of Ann in 1889.

Perhaps Annie, William and Mary were registered under their mother's surname and not Floris.

Unfortunately they are lots of Annie's registered in 1877 in Burton on Trent, so you would need to cross reference them with Williams and Marys to see if there are any of the same name. A quicker way would be to get the birth certificate of one of the younger children and find the mother's maiden name.

There is an Annie Fowers, Mar 1/4 1878, 6b, 346 in the Burton reg district. Ties in with the age of 30 on the Oct marriage certificate.

This would appear to be the above Annie on the 1881

Henry Fowers   32
Mary Fowers   23
Joseph Fowers   5
Ann Elizth Fowers   3
Henry Arthur Fowers
