Hello,
Could anyone possible date this photo please?  This was taken in the Lancashire area, most likely St Helens.

Thank you

Hi

It's fairly standard academic dress, which doesn't really help with the dating. She's wearing a white blouse - again usual form (with black skirt) for degree ceremonies. Hair style and blouse suggests early-mid 50s.

PS - I see that she might be wearing an engagement ring.

I'd agree with Gadget - very difficult to date with a style that goes back an awfully long way. The only clue is the blouse which could be 50's, as Gadget says, or even 40's. If it had been much later I would have expected it to be in colour.
Do you know what degree she obtained? There is no coloured 'collar' to the gown, indicating the degree.

Thank you for your help.  We believe this may be a woman who passed away at the age of 21 in 1955.  She was a secretary so the degree she may have in her hand may be for a business school, we're not sure.

We were also curious if the girl in the photo may be the same person as the young woman.  If anyone could give their opinions they would be appreciated.  Also, if someone could possibly date the photo of the young girl, that would be great.

Thank you again

Hi, I think they are both the same person.  My guess at the younger photo would be 1940s, I believe the fair isle style jumper and ribbon in the hair were typical of the 40s.  Though I am happy to be corrected  :D

The younger girl would be about 8 or 10 which would place the photo in the war years. The clothes, such as can be seen, are right for that period.
The older lady, if she was the one born in 1934, would be 21 in the photo if the left school at 18 and graduated after 3 years. That means she died soon after this photo was taken which I find very sad. If it is the same lady.
I am sure, as others are, thathe two photos are of the same person.

Regards

AJ
