Parish/Bender Marriage, Indiana
« on: Saturday 27 December 14 14:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I have reason to believe that my ancestor Flora Parish, born 1891 in Nanaimo, Canada, to Joshua and Elizabeth Parish, late of Wyke, Yorkshire, and who lived for some time in Vigo Co Indiana, was married to a man called Bender, possibly about 1914/15.  This would have been her first marriage - she later married a man named Louis E Arnett in 1923, in Washington (state).  The family also lived for many years in Oregon.  Flora signed the Arnett marriage document (seen on the Ancestry website) as Mrs Flora Bender, and seems to have had a few children by Mr Bender, but I cannot, however, find a marriage record for Flora and this Mr Bender.  I think that I have found everything it is possible to find about Flora on Ancestry and Familysearch, but was wondering if anyone knew of any other website I could search, that might have Indiana marriage records for this time period?  I realise that this is a long shot, but thought why not give it a go as it's Christmas!
Regards & Happy New Year,
Christine

There is a Vigo Co. marriage database here - http://www.vigo.lib.in.us/marriage - but I do not see Flora or Mr. Bender.

Do you have Flora on the 1920 census as Bender or any death information for her children?

Hi,

1930 Census seems to say Flora married age 21 years so around 1914. Death record for George E Bender born 13 March 1915 and died 23 August 1962 Oregon. Burial :- Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. Mentioned on US Veterans Gravesites.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=353198&ref=acom

Gap in children's ages from 1915 to 1923 could mean Mr Bender died 1915 ish  ???
No sign on 1920 census yet  ???

Could this be them in 1920?  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MZSR-4PV  The "Louise" is listed on the actual image as male, so maybe it's Louis?  The age for George looks like it's been written over and 49 doesn't make sense for a grandson of people in their 40's/50's.

Also, the actual image says that Flora was born "Van Cover Island" Canada, so that seems to fit.  Looking closely at George's age, it may say 4 9/12, meaning 4 years old and 9 months.

Looking back at 1900 the only son of Frank and Louise was Louis Bender aged 4 years

Central Lake, Antrim, Michigan 1900

Frank Bender  31 Louisa Bender  35
Florence M Bender  7 Louie Bender  4 Oct 1895
William J Mc Cloud  18
Julia Rousean  65#

Yet the WW1 Draft (5 June 1917)  for Louis Earl Bender (13 Oct 1895) in 1918 says he was single  ???
