Daniel Roe from Tipperary? Ireland
« on: Sunday 28 December 14 11:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, my ancestor Daniel Roe came to New Zealand, I have old family notes that say he came in the Imperial Guards and was born in Tipperary.

Anyone else looking for Daniel Roe?  any suggestions?
Daniel died in NZ in 1875 at the age of 45 so would have been born in 1830.

Information available greatly depends on period involved and you'll get a much better response to your post if you could at least give us an idea when Daniel Roe might have been born.

Meanwhile, have a look at this topic on searching for Irish ancrstors-

Unfortunately, Daniel was born well before the start of civil registration in Ireland. To find a baptismal record (if one exists) you'd need to know both the family's religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland) then see what church records for that parish survive. As there may be more than one Daniel Roe born around that period you'd probably need more details to confirm any find (father's name, for example).

Try searching N.Z. records if you haven't done so already-
marriage certificate may list parents
newspaper obituary/death notice may give more exact Irish location
death certificate may have birth or family details
church or burial records, headstone, etc.

Is he the Daniel Roe, age 45, buried 2 Nov.1875 Shortland, Auckland? If so, at least one online tree shows a marriage to Maria Nolan in 1859 with 5 children- perhaps another branch of the family would have details on Daniel.

Hi there,

That is his death notice to,  I notice that it also says late of Dublin, however the family notes I have say he was born in Tipperary.  How would I know where to go for church records?

Any help is so much appreciated, I pray that once I find his information that I maybe able to get information about his parents.

Thank you again so much

Paddy

I'm thinking if you go to the NZ board some kind person my be able to lookup one of these probates (wills) on Archway NZ

Auckland probate
ROE Daniel - Thames - Retired Farmer
or
Intestate Estate
ROE Daniel - Nishtown, Thames - Miner
or
Originating Summonses
Daniel Roe, deceased, Nishtown, Thames, Miner - his estate; Plaintiff: Thomas Roe, Auckland, Settler; Defendant: Patrick Ryan, Waikumete

Does he have a Thomas Roe decendant or a Patrick Ryan (That would narrow it down again)
Do you know if he was a farmer or a miner?

Hopefully his papers might have more birth details on them (a peak could be free)

Have you got his NZ death certificate printout, might name his parents, the printout is cheaper than a certificate from NZbdm
