During WW2 there was a boom across that end of the bay I suspect naval officers may have renamed the point.  ::)

Sure are - found a place related to OH's family on Arran just recently - doesn't exist on modern maps, I worked it out that its under the middle of a forestry plantation.

My thanks to all, especially Little Nell. The map I had records Kings Point off King's Cross.
It's in the area of my research. Thanks again.

Happy New Year to all.

Hi all,
First time I've noticed a post re Arran. I'm from Arran, have never heard of Aird but when I looked at the map Gadget linked to, it points to the Lamlash area as it appears to be next to Cordon although spelled differently on that map. I will however ask my elderly mother as she is more likely to know than me. If it is in Kings Cross, I know there is an old Roman fort but never heard of a castle. If there was my mum will know as that's where she grew up.
Any one else needing any Arran tips or hints do feel free to ask and I'll check out the Aird reference.
And yes Kilbride parish covers from the east to the south of the island then it becomes Kilmory parish.
Isle of Arran/Ayrshire - Reid, Dick, McConnell, Purden/Purdie, Allison, McKirdy/McCurdie, Tennant, Hamilton, Bowles
Renfreshire -Port Glasgow - Purdie/Purden, McKirdy/McCurdie/McReady
Eastwood Parish/Pollokshaws area, Glasgow - Campbell, Dick, McLachlan/McLauchlan/McLoughlin/McLaughlan, Edgar, McFarlane, Norris, Gray,
Linlithgow/New Kilpatrick/Milngavie - Dick, Edgar
Edinburgh/Leith/Milngavie/Stirling - John Reid
Belfast/County Derry/Magherafelt - Murray, McCormick, McCormack
