PLEASE HELP - MCGOVERN
« on: Wednesday 31 December 14 07:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello, after much futile searching I am in need of help.
I would dearly love to know anything about my Maternal side. My mothers name is * nee McGOVERN. She was born around 1965. She married * . She has at least one sister (her name might be * ?). Everything else is conjecture.
She may have a brother who died, perhaps in a car incident.
She might have been born in Quirindi, NSW, but moved to and attended school in Cardiff, NSW.

I would be so grateful for any information.
Thank you so much. Jemimah

* Moderator comment: names of those (possibly) still alive removed in order to respect their privacy.

Welcome to the boards, Jemimah.

Could you say whether your Mother is still alive, and are you in contact with her and your Father?

Also, have you managed to see your parents' marriage certificate?

Thank-you

Have you looked at this information regarding living relatives at the top of the Beginners Board

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=261434.0

The Australian laws governing the right to privacy of individuals are extremely strict, so if your parents are still alive, the team on the Australian Board will not be able to assist I'm afraid.

Thank you all, so much for replying. My mother is still alive. I have not had contact with her, or any family for nearly fifteen years. I have no further information about my maternal line. Thankyou so much. I apologise for any distress to living persons, caused by my need to know about my ethnicity and ancestors. I thought it was worth asking.

You have not caused anyone on here any distress whatsoever.

If you were looking for information in England, then we have such sites as
http://www.GenesReunited.co.uk/boards/board/living_relatives
which could try and help with Australia.  (Small fee to join).

Does Australia have any such sites?

Mr. and Mrs. George McGovern, of Cardiff might be relatives, they are on trove au and they are not alive (to old).

'The surname McGovern is of Irish origin and is found predominantly in the counties of Cavan (among the fifteen most common names), Fermanagh and Leitrim'

So part of you is Irish :)
