Richard Barlow b 1727 Chester - marriage
« on: Wednesday 31 December 14 12:19 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for the marriage of Richard Barlow - his wife's name.

He has two children Elizabeth - b 1754, Richard - b 1757 both St Oswald, Chester.

FS give two possibilities in the time scale - Sarah Ramsbottom  19 Jan 1750,  Mary Charlston 7 Feb 1751.  Source: England, Cheshire, Marriage Bonds and Allegations 1606 - 1900

Can anybody give a clue how to narrow the search please.  The children's christening/baptism entries give no clue as to their mother.

Thank you for any help.

Mike.

I wouldn't rule out the two earlier marriages, 14 Sep 1744 to AliceWroe, and 8 Feb 1745 to Alice Wright. Unless you can find these couples having children baptised at the same time as your two.
I am Australian, from all the lands I come (my ancestors, at least!)

Pine/Pyne, Dowdeswell, Kempster, Sando/Sandoe/Sandow, Nancarrow, Hounslow, Youatt, Richardson, Jarmyn, Oxlade, Coad, Kelsey, Crampton, Lindner, Pittaway, and too many others to name.
Devon, Dorset, Gloucs, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Wilts, Germany, Sweden, and of course London, to name a few.

Thank you,

I had looked at these but discounted because it put Richard Barlow's age at 17 and 18 respectively.  I thought a bit young for marriage in those days, perhaps wrongly!  Will look again.

Mike.

I have to say that the John b 1752 in Nantwich is very possible to be a sibling of Elizabeth and Richard?? ...

Yes, My christening record for 1727 shows 29 Jan (1728) Parents John and Sarah.  The marriage in 1748 Nantwich is in the time scale and another son John Barlow.  Is there a definite link - Ann to the three children.  I don't think Nantwich is too far away - 2 hours in a cart?

Thank you for that valuable info - the database lists many Barlow's!!!

Do you know Richards occupation ??...if a farmer / Ag Lab he could easily have been working in Anns village in Nantwich as a farmer - and moved to another farm in Chester 4 / 5 years later ??...

I don't know his occupation, but his descendants were all Iron men (smelters) in the Chirk area.
