RN service 1916 - 1947
« on: Sunday 03 July 05 20:11 BST (UK) »
My mother has just unearthed my grandfather's RN service record which covers the peiod 1916 - 1947. I've been trying to discover where the ships listed operated and which battles they were involved in through the 2 world wars, but am finding it very frustrating no matter how I Google it ! Is there an easy way to find out this information ? Can anyone recommend any good books ?

Also his record shows that he entered service as a "boy class 2" in June 1916 - family legend has it that he lied about his age and was acting as a  cabin boy prior to that and at the battle of Jutland - is this possible/likely and if is there any way to check ?

Emma,

Have you tried the National Maritime Museum (Greenwich) site.

http://www.nmm.ac.uk/server/show/nav.005

You may find a link to what you need.

Hope this is of use.

Try http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/royal.htm

In most cases you can find a photo of the ship and service details.
