McAtominey/McTamny Kilrea
« on: Thursday 01 January 15 18:44 GMT (UK) »
My name is McAtominey but I've traced my paternal GGF George McAtomeny (multiple mis spellings of the surnames in documents)  to being born in June 1851 in Glenone in the district of Greenlough in tamlacht O'Crilly. It would appear his father was Patrick McTamny and his mother was Bess Ray from killymuck. Also my maternal GGM was Sarah McAtomany (born in England) and her father was Patrick McTanney who was born in 1821 in Ireland. He married Elizabeth Mellon, presumably in Ireland. My sources have now dried up and before I come across to search further, any help on any of these individuals or families would be gratefully accepted.

Spelling of the surname might be your biggest problem in tracing the family in available records. I would have thought that McAtamney is the more common version these days. The people you've mentioned were all born before the start of birth registration so one important source will be church records (if they survive).

It sounds as though your ancestors might have left the area so it would help if you could give us an idea of where and when they might have gone.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Siblings:
John Mcatomany born 1855    Gateshead, Durham, England
Sarah Jane McAtomany born   1852    Gateshead, Durham, England
John Mcatomany born 1854    Gateshead, Durham, England

Felix Leslie McAtomney (from Innisrush Ireland Resident) born 1875, living in Gateshead, Durham in 1911.  ---->yet another different spelling (I notice this spelling brings up 9 McAtomney's in Londonderry, including another Felix in 1911)
(The 1901 census hates this spelling and returns 0_
