Religious searches
« on: Friday 02 January 15 09:53 GMT (UK) »
My uncle was a rector in Halewood and Neston and possibly elsewhere. His name was Harold Prescott Griffiths and born 1896 in West Derby Liverpool. He died in Cheadle Royal Hospital Cheshire, in 1956. He was the rector at Neston on the Wirral at the time of his death.
Are there any records that I can access to trace him? I subscribe to Find my Past but haven't had any success on there.

Try Crockford's Clerical Directory.  Looks like it is searchable.  www.crockford.org.uk
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks Bumble
I've just had a look at that and there only seems to be an H Griffiths which may or may not be him ...... but it seems that I have to pay £35 to access the records. I don't suppose there's any other way.

You don't say where you are living.  If in the UK then a major reference library may have the books, or maybe a Records Office where Diocesan records are held (I go to Lichfield, and I know that they have some Crockford Directories.)

As you're talking about Neston and Cheadle, then perhaps Cheshire Archives will have copies of Crockford.

Do you not remember asking this same question, and getting lots of replies, back in 2011?

I was going to post the details of the 1932 Crockford's Directory, but I see you already had that in 2011?! :(
