Hi Rosie.
We have an “unreadable” marriage certificate from 1847 Quebec Notre Dame Basilique which we can share, if you would like.  . I am working with a relative in Canada  and we believe that Thomas came from England and that Anne may also have come from England. I live in East Anglia and will do any research required over here.
We have information on the family starting with Thomas and would be only too pleased to shear it with you.

Hi, welcome from me too  ;D.

There are people who can read the 'unreadable'  ;) there is even a board for it.

Do post what sections you cannot read, we'll have a go as well as answering your original query.

26 Oct 1847 after banns. Looks like Thomas Bayliss is the elder son of William Bayliss & Mary Cassell & Anne Baker is the elder daughter of Thomas Baker & Mary Sheils; witnesses Samuel Laughlin & Ellen MacDonald, both friends. Thomas & Samuel signed their names.
Perhaps someone with better French than me can translate the rest .....

Hello and a warm welcome from me too  :).

Re: the marriage record....

The word would not be "elder" son/daughter. Majeur/majeure means that the groom/bride were of the age of majority, which I believe in those days would have been 21 years. William and Mary Bayliss were both deceased. Anne and Ellen declared that they were unable to write their names in the record.

Do you have the family in any census? These records (depending on the year) usually give place of birth for the citizens and/or their parents.

Do you have death dates for Thomas and Anne?

I am assuming from your earlier post that you have all info going forward from the marriage to the present and are trying to trace backwards from this point?

Thanks for the correction & information - I knew my French was pretty rusty  ;D.

Josey, my French is by no means all that great either ;D but those few bits I have learned over the years.

I have added a bit more to the info about the marriage.
