Barbara Ellen Cooper
« on: Sunday 04 January 15 20:09 GMT (UK) »
Known throughout her life as Ellen Cooper (2 Sep 1878 - 22 Jun 1962) was born in Dinedor, Hereford, to parents George (1 Jul 1851-3 May 1899) and Mary (formerly Ando 24 Sep 1854-21 Sep 1922). Ellen had twin brother, Arthur.
We have found details of Barbara Ellen and Arthur's siblings that add a further 7 children to the family. We know that Barbara Ellen had an illegitimate daughter (Mary Ann) who was one of my grandmothers and we know that her daughter was the cause of Barbara Ellen being consigned to Newport Union (Monmouthshire) Workhouse in August 1903. She remained essentially so consigned until her death in Drybridge House, Monmouth.
Any information/contacts. particularly with descendants of Barbara Ellen's twin brother Arthur would be great. We think he was actually Arthur Henry Cooper and we have some evidence placing him in South Wales - Brynmawr and later Merthyr Tydfil and possibly the Cardiff area. His death looked to have been c.1935.

It does seem Arthur was Arthur Henry Cooper -sharing same birth reg as Barbara Ellen

There is a tree online which gives their parents as George Cooper and Mary Ann A Cresswell
1891 census living with George Cooper and mary A and their 7 children is William Cresswell age 73 widower described as Father in law to head of household -so where does the name Ando come from?

Suz
Thornhill, Cresswell, Sisson, Harriman, Cripps, Eyre, Walter, Marson, Battison, Holmes, Bailey, Hardman, Fairhurst Noon-mainly in Derbys/Notts-but also Northampton, Oxford, Leics, Lancs-England

Thanks for taking the time to reply - the Cresswell entry has troubled me for years! It may well be an example of an online source perpetuating itself almost indefinitely, because I can find only the slightest of hints in the evidence.
I have BMD certificates evidence that Barbara Ellen Cooper's parents were George Cooper and Mary Ando (although Mary's death is still to be pinned down). The Cresswell name only appears as a possible father-in-law of Mary Ando on her marriage certificate.
However, my main interest is working foward rather than back - I'm trying to establish the stories of Barbara Ellen's siblings, particularly her twin brother, Arthur Henry.
Thanks again for your thoughts.
