Makin Family
« on: Thursday 08 January 15 05:44 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information regarding William Makin b. Sept. 15, 1825 in Ainsworth, Lancashire.  He married Mary (?) b. 1826 in Padiham, Lancashire.  I think William's parents were Rodger and Susan Makin, but can't confirm.  William would be my great great great grandfather.

William Makin, son of Roger married Susannah Hargreaves 4 June 1849 at Bolton le Moors.
Her father John Hargreaves
Bride and groom both single.

So this possibly rules him out as being your William. When did your William marry?
Do you have them on the censuses?

I do not have any marriage date.  The only other info I have is that Rodger and Susan where both born in 1802, and Rodger's parents were William and Jenny Makin.  Does this sound familiar at all?

Hello
I do not have any connection to this family, I just thought I would take a look to see what I could find  :D

Do you have William and Mary in any of the censuses? Their children's names and birth dates?

I think he was the Willian Makin married to Mary Murphy - 18 November 1851    Emmanuel Church, Newton In Makerfield, Lancashire, England

Census, 1871,living in Wigan, Hindley in the Parish of Ince In Makerfield,Lancashire
William born Ainsworth, Lancashire, 45 years (b 1826)
Mary born, Padinan, Lancashire, 44 years (b 1827)
John born, Little Lever, Lancashire, 18 years (b 1853)
Thomas born, Bromwich, Lancashire, 16 years
Martha born, Little Lever, Lancashire, 11 years

Timing seems right and Newton and Wigan are not far apart. All from the IGI
Wemyss/Crombie/Laing/Blyth (West Wemyss)
Givens/Normand (Dysart)
Clark/Lister (Dysart)
Wilkinson/Simson (Kettle or Kettlehill)

The William Makin to Mary Murphy marriage shows them both as being previously married.
William's father was John Makin, Stonemason
Mary's father was James Foyle he was an Enginner.
Mary was aged 40 when she married William.

You will get confirmation of Mary's name from one of the children's birth certificates.

If you have been working your way back, you need certificates to check out what you have found on the censuses.
