I wonder if the J is a mistranscription of Rob? But if the baptism is hers then it is looking as if she was illegitimate. I can't see her, or Lucy on the 1841 census as yet. Of course Lucy may have married anytime after An's baptism but there are quite a few Lucy Taylors marrying in the 12 years between 1839 and 1851

I found out about her being a native of Bristol in an obituary printed in Camperdown Chronicle Thursday 17 May 1923 on the Trove site. Do you think the possible illegitimacy would explain the english and welsh nationality on her emigration records?

I'm really interested in the names of the Dennings on that census/ and any census with Joseph and Annie living together.

Annie's future husband Joseph is in the 1851 census at Crossways, Somerset, Shepton Mallet

Then by the 1861 census I can't find Joseph, or some of the other Denning sons. I just have Josephs mum and dad with one remaining son Phillip

It does not say English and Welsh on the records.

As crisane explained, there is a column headed 'England and Wales' and if the person was born in either of those countries an entry would be made in that column, and in her case it specified Gloster.  There is no query over where she thought she was born, it is recorded as Gloster.

As Annie and Joseph marry in Almondsbury in late 1861, have you looked for either of them there, in 1861 census?

(about 9/10 miles from Bristol and as we do now people tended to give the nearest large town to those who would have no idea where Iron Acton was) She has lowered her age but then again the Shermans may have been answering the enumerator's questions and not know exactly when she was born

That Annie Taylor, visitor, was the one i suggested on the first page, which is why I was looking at Almondsbury and iron Acton.

I then found in the 1851 census, a Mary Ann Taylor, born 1836 in Iron Acton, visitor in Iron Acton with an Ann Taylor age 60. unmarried seamstress, possibly 60 or 50, and a Betty Taylor widow, age 73 Chipping Sodbury.

I then thought I had got a breakthrough with an Ann Taylor, age 55,(too old but 1851 census was unclear) living in Iron Acton with a Job Taylor age 60 and a Mary Ann Taylor.  But Mary Ann looked to be 12, so deleted.

Perhaps I should have left it for opinions, so have put it again here.
