Peter Brian Burley was born 14 Aug 1927 in Bristol, the second son of Joseph and Janet Burley. On the 14th March 1942 whilst on duty as a cycle messenger with the National Fire Service, he was in collision with a motorcycle, dying two weeks later (30 March) in Bristol Royal Infirmary from the head injuries he sustained. He was just 14 years, seven months and 16 days old (14  yrs 259 days). It is presently believed that he was the youngest member of the Uniformed Services (as opposed to Armed Services) to die on duty during the Second World war.

Buried in the family plot in Shirehampton Cemetery, Bristol
Commemorated on the National Fire Services Memorial by St Paul's Cathedral, London and listed on the CWGC website.
