Astley family of Newtown
« on: Sunday 11 January 15 13:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi
On the 1901 census for Newtown Annie Astley is described as head, wid, 33, Woollen Weaver.  Her family enumerated as Fredk 15; Emily 14; Alfred 12; Charles R 10; John S 08; George 06 and Susy 04, all born Newtown.  The 1911 details tells us Annie had been married 27 years.  FreeBMD list one marriage for Thomas Astley and Annie Davies in Dec Qtr 1884.  The Death Index for Newtown list Thomas Astley Jun Qtr 1899 aged 31.  I have searched British Newspaper archives and Welsh Newspapers online for a death report or obituary for Thomas but failed to find one.  Can someone with local knowledge please help.
Thanks

There is a burial for Thomas on 15th April 1899 in Newtown. His abode is the same as Annie on the 1901 census.
It also says that he was buried 'Without the rites of the Church'

The record is on Familysearch with a link to Findmypast for the image.

In Findmypast, enter Newtown as the location. This also has a baptism but in 1864, which doesn't tie in with the age given for the burial.
