Probate and Wills 1858+
« on: Monday 04 July 05 09:15 BST (UK) »
I visit Birmingham Central library fairly regularly (about once a month) They have a copy of the Calendar of Grants of Probate and Administration from 1858 to 1972. This gives date and place  of death, sometimes occupation and executors. It covers the whole country and sometimes people who died abroad but  probate was dealt with here. I found a relative who had died in India.
It provides all the information you need to send for copies of the will.
I am willing to do look ups when I am there but I will need as much information as possible the books are indexed alphabetically and by year.
The original books are gradually being rebound so there are usually some 'missing'
I don't live in Birmingham so the response won't be instant but I am happy to look on my next visit!
