1841/51 Pickhill, Denbighshire

Trying to find James Rowe c1795 living at Parkey Farm/Lodge/Hall. My ancestor Thomas Roberts bought/inherited the farm off James Rowe c1870 - think there may be a family connection as Thomas named his youngest son Charles Rowe Roberts.

Would be interested to see who was living with James.

Thanks for your interest. Pickhill is near Bangor on Dee, I believe.

Since I posted my request my interest in Parkey Lodge has increased. Thomas Roberts who lived there in 1871 is on my mother's side, but recent investigations on my father's side have revealed that in 1881 a relative of his lived at Parkey -Thomas Metcalf.  Quite a coincidence since neither of my parents (born in St Helens) had any notion of their Welsh connections.

Thomas Metcalf was married to a Rebecca Roberts but whether there was any connection between the two families I haven't been able to establish.

Therefore any information I can get would be brilliant.

Christ! I thought Pickhill sounded familiar! 

I have the 1841 census for Denbighshire on disc, but sadly all the surrounding area's around Wrexham have been lost, which includes Bangor On Dee.

The 1851 census is therefore your next move, whether it be a trip to Wrexham museum or you wait for Ancestry to get it on line is your call. As far as Im aware no 1851 census disc is currently availiable at present.

If you don't get any answers before, next time I go to the FRC in London I will look it up on the 1851 census for you.  I have already done it for 1861 to 1901 as my BRISCOE family were living there at those times.  However I only get a chance to go every 6 months or so, so don't rely on me.  I will post again just before my next trip, if you are interested.

Thank you very much - I doubt I'll get much done in the next couple of months. School holidays! Can't understand why but my 6 and 8 year olds don't seem to enjoy hours spent in a record office or library!

I know the feeling, I have a 8, 5 and 3 year old.  Though the 8 yr old loves looking at the original index books that 'smell funny', but it only lasts for 10 minutes!

I am not actually actively researching now, but will be 'back on the case' in September.  I will post again then.

PS for anyone interested Parkey farm can be found on modern maps just East of Marchwiel, which is just South of Wrexham.
