« on: Wednesday 14 January 15 14:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am trying to find information on Bessie Agatha Taaffe who according to the 1901 and 1911 Essex Census she was born in Bray in 1875. On her wedding certificate to David E Boatman in 1902 her father was Joseph.

On looking up Bessie I found here census entries
in 1901 it states she was born in Bray Ireland but
in 1911 it states she was born in Bristol Gloucester

There is one birth of an Elizabeth TAAFFE in Rathdown (the civil district for Bray, Co. Wicklow) that gives no year; volume 2 page 839 but I cannot see any other birth that would match
However there is a marriage of a Bessie/Elizabeth Taaffe in 1908 in Rathdown also

There are a couple of the correct name in Louth and Sligo but you can follow their lives through the Irish census and civil records to eliminate them
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder

myluck

I forgot to mention the Bristol entry, I have searched the Bristol area with no luck.
What is the best site for me to search the Irish census and civil records to find a connection.

The Irish civil records are indexed on www.familysearch.org and free
They don't match marriage parties though

Findmypast and Ancestry also list the entries

This is a link to the 1901 census for Taaffes in Co. Wicklow where Bray is located
You will notice that none of those named Taaffe were born in the county which is not helpful!

You can use this site to freely search the 1901 and 1911 Irish census returns
There are more entries with the spelling TAFFE,
There are incomplete records for previous years
Kearney & Bourke/ Johns & Fox/ Mannion & Finan/ Donohoe & Curley
Byrne [Carthy], Keeffe/ Germaine, Butler/ McDermott, Giblin/ Lally, Dolan
Toole, Doran; Dowling, Grogan/ Reilly, Burke; Warren, Kidd [Lawless]/ Smith, Scally; Mangan, Rodgers/ Fahy, Calday; Staunton, Miller
Further generations:
Brophy Coleman Eathorn(e) Fahy Fitzpatrick Geraghty Haverty Keane Keogh Nowlan Rowe Walder

Hi, OK then, I love a challenge.
I too found the family in Bray. The Father Francis born in Roscommon, the Mother born in England. as on the 1901 census and the Mother had passed on in the 1911 census. She died on the 13Th April 1910 in Deansgrange, Dublin. The address is the same as the census in Bray.
(2 Duncain Terrace, Bray)
I checked for the Josephine in the census and her record is there but none of the others.
But, now we have the Mothers name. Florence Augusta  De MacEdo. known as Florinda.
The records office in Roscommon is...........
General Records Office, Government Offices, Convent Road, Roscommon. County Roscommon. Ireland.  A photo copy is 4 euro and actual copy is 20 euro. Ask to search for Bessie first.
There is a tree in Ancestry with the information on Florence up to when she was still at home in 1861. It says she married Francis Tatte.
Francis was the Manager of the Bank of Ireland at the time of record in 1877.
This is the marriage record.......

Name:
Francis Taaffe
Date of Registration: 1868
Registration district: Rathdown
Volume:12 Page Number:760 FHL Film Number:101250 Records on Page:
Name Francis Taaffe   Florinda De Macedo

By the end of the year photo copied pages of Parish records are to be on line from the National Library of Ireland. This is great as I spend a lot of time in the library getting copies.
This has got to be the same family as there were the only Taaffe's in Bray.
I hope this is a help.

Francis French Plunkett Taaffe was my great-grandfather.  He married Florinda de Macedo of Leeds.
My grandfather was William Plunkett Taaffe. William settled in New Zealand prior to WW1.

As far as I know William had two sisters Caroline and Josephine (both were spinsters and lived in Sandycove.)

There has been a suggestion that the three children above had other siblings this has yet to be verified.
