Thanks for all the help and advice on my first post everyone - much appreciated! Can anyone help me locate the birth record for Arthur Anthony Champion?
His marriage certificate shows:
Date: 24th May 1855 in East Stonehouse to Elizabeth Bartell.
Age 20yrs, (so birth 1835 in Ireland).
He is shown as a Bombardier R.A. (Long Room Barrack) So stationed in Plymouth in 1855.
His father shown as Thomas Champion (profession = Baker).
I now know (thanks to you he was a Sergeant in 13th Brigade in India, 1861), so I assume he would have been in the same regiment in 1855???
I can't find Arthur in the 1851 census or the 1841 UK census records so far. The fact he was a Bombardier indicates to me that he had had a prior promotion from Gunner? So allowing prior army involvement (and time to woo his bride) could that make an enlistment date back to 1850 (age 15) thus missing the 1851 census?
Alternatively he may still have been in Ireland, and I can't tie Thomas to Arthur. Anybody like to try and help me untie this knot?
