A place called Tamleugh?
« on: Friday 16 January 15 08:07 GMT (UK) »
"Mr Mullens named Tamleugh after his father's estate in Ireland, owing to the similarity of the small hills which were scattered about the neighborhood." - Tamleugh is near Violet Town, in Victoria, Australia.

Charles Mullens/Mullin/Mullins was born at Newtown Limavady c1819, the son of James Mullin and Rachel McDevitt and arrived in Melbourne, Australia about 1840. He had a sheep property called Moglonemby.

I'm keen to find baptism records for Charles and his siblings who also came to Victoria - John Michael, born c1829; Margaret, born c1831; James, born c1831 and William, born c1832.

Can anyone suggest where Tamleugh in Derry is/was?

Possibly the townland of Tamlaght which is in the parish of Magilligan close to Limavady.

Mullins (and variants) very common surname in the area and there are lots of possible churches they could have attended. Do you know what religion they were?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

The family married in just about anything but a Catholic Church in Victoria, but mostly Church of England or Presbyterian.

Hi,
There is another townland called Tamlaght which lies about a mile west of the town of Limavady and is in the Parish of Tamlaghtfinlagan (Ballykelly).

Might it be the same townland split between the parishes of Magilligan and Tamlaghtfinlagan?

To answer my own question I have checked and see that they are quite separate townlands.
