tracing Whites and Corbetts from Cashel
« on: Sunday 18 January 15 02:26 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information in regard to the WHITE and CORBETT families from CASHEL. Fanny Corbett (born abt 1815) married a Thomas White . They had at least 3 children,Mary Ann (1832),Frances ( 1843) and Ellen (1845). Thomas a shoemaker died before 1850.Fanny moved to Manchester where she married a Richard Manton.
Frances White emigrated to Australia in 1863 and married David Nicolson from Unst.
Mary Ann also emigrated to Australia in 1850 and married an Evan Gill.
Fanny Corbett was the daughter of Thomas Corbett. She was one of at least children. The others being Michael & James.
Michael Corbett and wife Mary both died before 1850 but they had two daughters, MARY (1832) and JOHANNA (1835) who also emigrated to Australia in 1850.
I would love to hear from anyone who would have further information on these two families. :)

So had you thought that Johanna CORBETT married John GARVIN? No marriage is sighted in Victoria.

There are births registered to a couple named John GARVIN and Johanna CORBETT  in Victoria from 1869.  Is this the couple you refer to? Do you need further information?

Could you let us all know what information you already have about this branch of your family.

That way  a lot of time is saved on searching  ;D

There are 2 births- again registered in Victoria- to a couple with your names of interest.

NICHOLSON, Flora May. Father, David. Mother Fanny WHITE. Birthplace Adel. 1883. Reg 13588

NICHOLSON, Gilberta.  Father, David. Mother Faney (sic) WHITE. Birthplace Adelaide L. 1880. Reg 12729.

It seems these two were born in South Australia, but their registrations made in Victoria. Perhaps there were more life events for this couple in South Australia.

thanks Sue for all of that information. I agree with you re the wasting time bit!
The Nicolson family I am "sort of" on top off! Where it shows Adelaide, this in fact Adelaide Lead, a place near Maryborough,Victoria.
I am more interested in the White/ Corbett connection. I have all the Gill family info that you mention and I am following up on at moment,so any further information there would be appreciated.
As far as Johanna Corbett marrying John Garvin, I have no information at all,so this indeed is a possible lead and any further information would be appreciated :)
The "big" information that is really being elusive is the Irish records ::)
Perhaps the Australian records may turn up a bit more to work on ???
