Searching for Phil Cozens
« on: Monday 19 January 15 10:26 GMT (UK) »
I have an old photograph of a boy in a sailor suite taken around 1912. His name is Percival Henry Cozens. Probably born in Lewisham, London UK in 1895. I believe he had a son called Phil Cozens probably living in South Australia. Any chance of contacting Phil Cozens or any of his relatives?

As he only died last year you could contact the Funeral Directors.  Some of them will either give you the information as to the person who arranged the funeral or pass on a letter.  Some of them won't!

Hi,

I too am searching for Phillip Cozens as I knew him when he was 15 years.
You are right, Percival Henry Cozens was born in Lewisham 1895, I thought he was in the Army, but confirmed it was the navy, after the war, he became a mechanic, a very good one so I am told.
Phil immigrated to Australia in 1969/70, just 22.
I will keep this short just in case you don't receive it.
But if you do please reply to me.

Welcome to Rootschat, Brian.

If he was Philip Colin by name, born 24th July 1947, then he was deceased in 2014, as previously posted:

Philip Colin was a panel beater who arrived here in 1970:

hI.

Removed my email address, sorry about that, too much of a hurry to get the post done.
Missed reading the rules.
The information that you provided me with I knew about, but the information regarding burial was handy, at least that ends my searches, for Phil Cozens.
Phil had a big family, there were four other siblings plus one who died before he was born. What I find strange about the family, is that all but one of the siblings died young. The youngest Gillian is still alive I believe, at 70.
Odd this is. Phil was 67 when he passed away, his father passed away at 66.
Thanks for your help.

Brian

The  Death Notice which was linked by cupoflife seems to show the names of two daughters and a son-in-law, with no mention of his wife, although the immigration record gives her name. As she was born 1949 she may well be still alive so I won't give her name here.  You can see the immigration index record by searching the National Archives site here
https://www.naa.gov.au/
Scroll down and go to RecordSearch, then Namesearch, put in Cozens and select immigration

I cannot see any further mention of his wife or other relative but there may have been a further death notice which I can't find.  There was mention somewhere that he had a son living in South Australia. Of course, it's likely his daughters now have married surnames.

The White Pages (telephone directory) shows 6 people with surname COZENS living in South Australia and one of them has the initial as mentioned.  So perhaps a letter..................

Judith,

Found out what I needed to know, as for finding the address in the white pages SA it is impossible as here in the UK, I am not allowed access for some reason so I am stuck there, so I can't pursue that avenue.
Anyway thanks to everybody for the help you have given.

Regards.

Brian
