Looking for where Stephen Ramsay BEATTY was buried (1867).
« on: Wednesday 21 January 15 14:34 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find where Stephen Ramsay BEATTY was buried.
He died 24 December 1867 aged 36, leaving wife Jane (nee Thompson) and seven children.
He was publican of the Bull and Mouth Hotel in Maryborough Victoria.
I have found his death notice and will but I can't find a funeral notice or a listing in cemetery indexes for the Maryborough area.

Any help or pointers very much appreciated.

Hi,
You asked sometime ago regarding Stephen Ramsay Beatty.  Stephen was my maternal great great grandfather.  According to his death certificate, he was buried on 26th December 1867 in the Maryborough Cemetery (Victoria, Australia).  The cemetery records are incomplete and have no reference to him.
Regards,
John Vale

Hi John,

Stephen was also my great great grandfather, so we must be related :)

Thank you so much for posting this information. I haven't dipped into the tree for a while but this is enough to get me hunting again.

You have likely made more progress than I, but please sing out if there's any walls you're stuck at on the off chance I may be able to help.

cheers,
Mandy

It is with regret that we announce the death of Mr S. R. Beatty, of Maryborough, which took place about noon on Tuesday last, from dropsy. The deceased gentleman at the time of his death was only thirty-six years of age, and universally respected for his philanthropic principles throughout the whole district. He was for many years a most useful member of the Hospital Committee, and latterly he filled the vice-president's chair of that institution. In addition to this he acted as trustee for the Church of England at Maryborough, and filed the same office for the Maryborough Cemetery. The deceased was interred yesterday afternoon, and a large number of friends attended the funeral.
