Rachel Warren - baptism? - COMPLETED
« on: Wednesday 21 January 15 21:43 GMT (UK) »
Rachel Warren married Thomas Shurman in Wanborough, Wiltshire on 28 October 1827.

I've not found them on the 1841 census, but I have them on the 1851 census:

Village, Ruislip, Uxbridge

Thomas Sherman, 42, Bailiff (farm), b Driffield, Gloucs
Rachel Sherman, wife, 50, Ag Lab, b Poulton, Wilts
Eliza Sherman, d, 21, Ag Lab, b Driffield (as are all other children)
Edwin Sherman, s, 20, Ag Lab
Robert Sherman, s, 18, Ag Lab
Henry Sherman, s, 10, Scholar

I then lose them again in the 1861 census, and Eliza Weatherly dies in 1862 (registered Middlesex, Uxbridge 1862 Q2 volume 3A page 21).

The baptism isn't turning up on FindMyPast ... so I need either to make a trip to Wiltshire to look up some parish records, or assistance from some kind person who has access to them ...

Pretty please  :)

Poulton was transferred from Wiltshire to Gloucestershire in 1844.

I think that the parish records are with Gloucestershire?

EDIT: Yes they are!
Bishop's Transcripts however, are still with Wiltshire?! ::)

Sorry for asking but do you have a birth cert for one of the younger children to verify Rachel's maiden name?

A few of the "hints" on A*try are pointing towards the marriage of Thomas Shurmer and Rachael Pound in 1826 in Poulton.

Driffield is 3.6 miles from Poulton, by road.

Ooooh ... thank you. Yes, that looks like the 1841 census alright.

I hadn't picked up the 1826 marriage either. Better chase up a certificate to work out which it is.

If it IS Rachel Warren, then I think I may have her baptism: Yate, Gloucestershire, Rachel Warin daughter of Daniel and Grace baptized 27 December 1795. That fits in with the age in the 1841 census, too.

Seems a bit of a distance away, though, so I'd need to check carefully to see that she didn't marry in the yate vicinity ...

Better not speculate though. Better get another certificate. (I only got put onto this line by a certificate which arrived today, and didn't say what I was expecting ... )

Sorry for asking but do you have a birth cert for one of the younger children to verify Rachel's maiden name?

Henry's the only one that there will be a certificate for ... and thankfully, he is easily identified:

Henry Shurmer, registered Cirencester 1840 Q3 volume 11 page 230

Certificate ordered ... we'll see what it has to say for itself!

Thanks for your help, everyone.

That's great news - thanks Keyboard. So now I have a line to follow whichever it turns out to be.
