The researcher has sighted a death cert to know the date and place of death.
Information from the death index

Death
ALLEN Lucy
Father George SYKES  Mother not recorded
1876   Born North[ampton]  38 years  Reg#9404

http://prov.vic.gov.au/index_search?searchid=24
ALLEN Daniel  24 years arrived Nov 1859 HERALD OF THE MORNING Book 13 Page 382
ALLEN Lucy  20 years
ALLEN Janet  0 years

Another resource details that Daniel was born Northampton, labourer, could read and write and religion was Church of England.  The Disposal List -  By Whom Engaged states Own account. Address  Burnt Bank and dated 29 Nov 1859.

I think it should be Burnt Bank Creek between Avoca and Lexton.  This is one of the very references to this name as a place in Victoria.

Daniel may have remarried after the death of his wife Lucy.
Not certain ::)

ALLEN William Daniel  (Birth Place NORTHAMPTONSHIRE)
BEECH Ellen
Year 1878
Reg   3219

He died at Ballan, Victoria

Death notice Daniel ALLEN
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/90572621

There was an inquest and this item gives details
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/90572612

He left a will which is apparently digitised, but, annoyingly, it cannot be viewed because it seems to have been incorrectly filed, so the folder which should be his, contains the will of another man!

This extract refers to Burn Bank (Lexton).

http://home.vicnet.net.au/~adhs/Article.html
In some early reports the diggings were identified as the "Clare Castle diggings", after a hotel of that name run by a George Cartwright which was located on the main road between Avoca and Burn Bank (Lexton), eleven miles to the south. Burn Bank was one of the earliest provisioning centres to be established in the district. It was suggested that the owner of the "Clare Castle" had backed the prospectors. This was quite likely - gold attracted miners who had a mighty thirst after a hard day's digging and a large gold mining population was good for business. The "Clare Castle" hotel at this time was an unpretentious structure of about 24 feet by 10 feet, with slab walls 6 feet in height, and a canvas roof

Burn Bank was renamed Lexton in 1854.

Marriage with a little more info...
ALLEN Daniel  Born Northampton
BEECH Ellen  Born Clare - this is probably Co Clare, Ireland
1878  Reg#3219

A Samuel BEECH married an Ellen LEE in 1864.  They had a number of children in the Ballarat area.  Samuel died in 1877, born England, Parents unknown Reg#3942.
Could be his wife who married Daniel ALLEN in 1878.

I do not know why the first forename  William   is given (William Daniel ALLEN) on the index of the marriage to Ellen BEECH.

It does not appear anywhere else in his life events.

A mistake of some kind perhaps ::)
