Emma Holton and William Watson
« on: Saturday 24 January 15 02:55 GMT (UK) »
Is anyone searching for Emma and William Watson .Emma was born 1822 to John Holton and Sarah ??? I always  thought it was Sarah Hammond but another researcher has corrected me  Emma came to Australia in 1844 with husband William two children John (my Ggrandfather)and sister Sarah
William died in 1852 and Emma remarried John Halliday in Victoria Australia,research on William I am sure his parents are John Watson and Mary Howell,  Interested in the Holton line.... Bartholomew

JOHN/SARAH Christened Gawcott, Bucks;
JOSEPH, 9 Dec 1810
HANNAH, 10 July 1814***
WILLIAM, 26 Dec 1816
THOMAS, 23 Sept 1817
FREDERICK, 12 Feb 1819
EMMA, 1 Sept 1822
JOSIAH, 12 Oct 1828
GEORGE, 10 June 1832

I see no problem with Johns Wife being Sarah HAMMOND, Married 2 March 1809,Bow Brickhill, Buckinghamshire.

I did see that others have as Sarah Short, Married to John in Oxfordshire 1807

1841 Census does have Sarah not born in County of Bucks.

But I am pretty sure her age is mistranscribed in 1851 Census;
Sarah HOLTON, age 52, Widow,  born c 1799 Gawcott, Bucks
Visiting Christopher Cox and Family
The image to me says age 62

Marriage F/S.Org;
Chrisitopher COX to Hannah HOLTON, 1840  Buckingham, Buckinghamshire

1851 Hannah Cox is born c 1814, Preston Bisset, Bucks
1881 she is born c 1814 Gawcott

So looks like Daughter of John/Sarah Christened 1814 as above***

I see no problem with Johns Wife being Sarah HAMMOND, Married 2 March 1809,Bow Brickhill, Buckinghamshire.

Cant find a Baptism for her though c 1789.

Trish :)

There may be 2 Couples named John/Sarah Holton and that is where the confusion comes in;

Christenings, Bow Brickhall, Bucks;
BENJAMIN, 1 Aug 1809
WILLIAM 18 Dec 1810
GEORGE, 25 March 1813
JOHN, 17 Dec 1816
JOSEPH, 18 Feb 1821
ANN, 2 Feb 1822
THOMAS, 17 June 1827

Looks to me like 2 Couples as William 1810 and Joseph 1810 must be to different Parents?

Hello thank you for your post I have a tree on Ancestry (do you) I have been researching my Watson line for a while  Emma,s son John Thomas Watson is my GGrandfather John came to Australia with Emma William and Sarah (his sister). I am interested in your line and would be interested in your info on the Watsons and Short family,mainly Short as I have been looking for a Sarah Short John Holton line , trying to link them to my Emma, many trees on Ancestry have Sarah Hammond being Emmas mother  so wrong as I have confirmation from another researcher in Australia that it is not her (this one died in 1831 and I still have Sarah alive in the 1851 census living with  the Cox family, I dont know how to give you my Email privately do you  hope we can share something   Cathleen

Hello Cathleen - thank you so much for your reply.  I have learned something from this thread - William’s parents - I couldn’t find his mother’ maiden name but you have it!  I had Mary (Unknown) born in Chester.
Sorry I can’t help with the Short family.  I only have Sarah marrying Joseph & think I have all their children.  One thing I do remember is Sarah’s two oldest children were illegitimate.
Also my gg Thomas (Wm’s brother) married Elizabeth Cox from Gawcott.  She was an only child of Wm & Ann Cox.  Wondering if they are related to Christopher Cox?
I am on ancestry but tree is mainly direct line.  Also Genes Reunited.
I have been to Hethe, total fluke how I got there!  Beautiful old English country village, cottages with thatched roof.
Thanks again
