Unidentified Photo of Marching Men - Information Please..........
« on: Sunday 25 January 15 15:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I am re-cataloging old family photo's and trying to establish where they were taken, if I can.  In this instance I am also trying to identify who might be in the photo (generically) and what the men are marching for.

The photo was in my grandfather's collection. He was born in Co. Fermanagh, Ireland and settled in Wallasey, Cheshire c.1906.

Any information would be gratefully received,

Many thanks, Baz.

This looks like wakes week Gala that was held regularly in that area. the banner is a trades Union banner.

Are you saying a Gala in Wallasey?  Which Trades Union banner would it be?  I thought Wakes Week was essentially Lancashire?

Thanks, Baz.

I don't recognize the banner. These Gala were held Lancashire but also in other places as well. Places where the union movement was strong. I,m not saying it is this just a channel to try.

West, Alexander, Banham, Balchin.

Some of the chaps behind/near the banner look like they are wearing sashes, could it be the Wirral Orange Order?  :-\

Looks like it might be a Lambeg drum in the second row, also associated with Orange Marches.

My grandfather was a Protestant from Lack, Co Fermanagh.  He settled in Seacombe, Wallasey where he lived for the rest of his life (apart from his last few years in New Brighton.

If this is a photo of an Orange Day Parade, is it more likely to be in Ireland than in Wallasey?
