Welcome to Rootschat but we'll need a bit more details to even make a start.

Any idea of his birthdate/year and place? Have you found ANY records for him so far. Are you looking for personal information, military details or something else?
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

This link takes you to a website with a photo of a Regimental Sergeant Major John Ring  M.C.,  D.C.M.
Royal Munster Fusiliers.  http://www.royalmunsterfusiliers.org/o7ring.htm
is this your grandfather?

googling his name brings up a few military hits so is it his earlier life you want to know about.

Esther's death gives her age as 69
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FTR6-H3J
These records stop at 1958 so won't be able to find John's online.

Do you know if they married in Ireland, Esther's maiden name, and where she was from?
Assuming that's the correct couple of course.

According to this website http://www.wartimememoriesproject.com/greatwar/allied/alliedarmy-view.php?pid=6747 the 2nd Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers were based at Aldershot with 1st (Guards) Brigade, 1st Division when war was declared in August 1914.
John joined up before WW1. We are prohibited from giving you all the details from the 1911 but he and his wife and infant daughter are on there in barracks at Hampshire.
I can't see a marriage for them in England c1910 but there is one in Limerick which is where Esther was born and where John retired to. Unfortunately there are two brides with the first name Esther to choose from.
Esther Morrissey or Esther Russell
John Ring
Registered September 1/4 1909
Registered Limerick
Vol5 Page 257
FHL Film Number - 101261

This could be the birth of their daughter with the surname mistranscribed as King as in the census
Ellen M King   September 1/4  Andover vol 2c page 246
Andover includes South Tedworth which is where Ellen Mary Ring was born in 1910.

Using google I found that the 2nd batt Royal Munster Fusiliers were in Kent sometime in 1914 (lots of photos of troops) so this could be the birth of John and Esther's second child (if she followed him there)
On FreeBMD
Harry Ring Sept 1/4 1914 registration district Strood Kent vol 2a page 1392
Mother's maiden name Russell.

This is all supposition so you need the marriage registration for John and Esther.

See post #7  re the public tree on ancestry.

One of his biographies says your grandfather was born in Bandon so this could be his birth registration,

John Ring
Registered 1876
Registration district, Bandon
vol 20 page -4
FHL Film number 101053

If you are wanting to follow your grandfather's family further back you will need to first need to find out his father's name and occupation from the marriage certificate which will lead to his birth certificate which will give both his father's name and his mother's maiden name.

There is a public tree on ancestry which has John's wife as Esther Christina Morrissey and children for Esther and John as Ellen 1910,  Sarah Teresa born Limerick 1911 – 1990,  Martin J 1912 – 1979 died South Africa Esther Josephine 1914 – 1915, John 1924 – 1979 died in Spain, Thomas Alphonsus 1926 – 2013, Clement M 1928 – 2005 died Eessex.
Esther J and Martin J both born in England mother/s maiden name Morrissey.
Do any of these names sound familiar?

I have enjoyed reading about the history of the Dublin Fusiliers whilst doing a little searching. ;)
Christina
