Can anyone help me to find out more about my Grandfather Henry Charles Atkinson who lived most of his life in West Ham. He married Ellen Jones there in 1895, and died in 1961 in Ramsgate at the home of his daughter Alice. However, I cannot trace him before the 1891 census when he was living in West Ham, aged 18 with his father William. According to this census he was born in Bromley, but I have been unable to find a birth certificate for a Henry Charles in Bromley Kent, or even Bromley -by-Bow which is near to West Ham. William Atkinson is listed as a widower in 1891 and appears to have been born in Dublin in either 1833 or 1838. Again I can find no trace of William prior to 1891.

Hi Suziq,
That's my problem. I just cannot find Henry Charles, which is what is on his marriage certificate. He appears not to have been not registered with both those names. Everything from 1895 onward has him as Henry Charles, and I am unable to pinpoint him in the 1881 census.
