Hughes. Cobbler Rachub and Gerlan
« on: Friday 30 January 15 11:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for any information on the Hughes family.
They had a cobbler shop in Rachub, and also another, my grandfather's shop in Stanley House, Gerlan.
His name was William Hughes, he had a brother named John Alf and a sister Nell.
He married Margaret Evans.

Thank you,
Betty

Hello and welcome to RootsChat

Could you give further information ? d.o.b. etc
With a name like Hughes in Wales as much information you can give can help towards finding the correct family.
To save duplicate look ups could you please post what records you have - e.g. census /marriage certs
and is there more specific information you are trying to find

A lot of questions but it is better to be sure the correct line is being followed

Hello and Thank you,

Yes it would be difficult to follow that surname.

I'm going to look up as much as I can via cenus and records.

My grandfather died in 1959, buried at Coetmor cemetery, and my grandmother died in 1983.

I don't have their dob, being a rookie to searching I'm going to find all this out.

It's a side of the family we know little about, it's curiosity that sparked us. His father moved to the USA, prospered, then returned and set up his whole family in business.

Kind Regards,
Betty

what were your grandparents full names - from their death reg (if you have the month as well it would help) we should be able to find their y.o.b.

I have found some rough dates here on paper.

William Hughes 1893-1958
Margaret Evans 1898-1984

Her parents
                   Jeremiah Evans     1862-1948
                   Margaret Hughes  1862-1955

Jeremiah's parents
                    Richard Evans     1828-1898
                    Ann Evans

I am definitely going to look through the "how to get started" section with the research.
Thank you for helping me get started.

Betty

Could I ask where you found the dates

In your fist post you state your grandfather died 1958
then later post you say 1959

Similarly your Gran's death date is 1984 and then later 1985???

Which is the correct date??

Hello,
Thank you. That is great. Yes I recognise the names and it would all fit.
My original dates were from memory.
Thank you both very much suzard and chempat for all the trouble of looking into this.
I now have something to start from.
