History on Wroot family in Doncaster South Yorkshire?
« on: Saturday 31 January 15 12:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I am wanting to find out about my great grandfather. His son William Richard Wroot (my grandfather) lived in Crowle near Doncaster. William was born around 1888 and was married to an Alice Smith. If possible I would like to know who William's father was. Thank you

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

I'm not seeing any marriages for anyone called Wroot?
Neither can I see any births?

Ignore this! FreeBMD was playing up?!?!

 ???

I did a search for the Wroot surname, 1880 to 1930, for marriages & births, and got "nothing found"?!?!

Even a search for marriages of Alice Smith, spouse surname W*, 1905-1960 turned up nothing?!

What's going on?! :-\

(I've just used the back button on the browser, just to check I didn't do anything stupid - like county or district - but all looks OK, except no results?!)

His baptism is on FindMyPast in Eastoft.
This looks like his parents in 1881

This entry for the census from the free search on familysearch gives his age as 29 in 1911 which would tie in with the earlier birth I found.

KG I haven't a clue what is going on,  I have tried doing what you have done and it worked fine.

I just put in William Richard Wroot and selected all types and it only brought up those two records.

Have you tried the Isle of Axholme family history group, when I was in it a few years ago I remember seeing that surname quite a lot, I think Wroot was mentioned as a "Lincolnshire Peculiar" surname.
