Whenu I would suggest that if they think that it is an Australian military medal that they send a picture to RSL headquarters.  They may be able to give an idea about its origin.  Does it have any markings on it as I think most Australian military medals have name, rank and serial number on them.

Thanks NJ, have heard it is referred to as "The Rising Sun" medals for the AIF.
Also that the badge may not be connected with the medal.

The badge is the Rising Sun and there is some information about it here.

http://www.army.gov.au/Our-history/Traditions/The-Rising-Sun-Badge

It shows it as being between 1904 and 1949.

I haven't seen the medal, not that I know many.

Good evening,

Definitely not an official Australian medal or award;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_honours_system

http://www.itsanhonour.gov.au/honours/awards/a-z.cfm

It could be something given by a company or organisation to members or employees. Or it is from a different country.

It looks very simple, and the blank white round central bit looks odd. Like John, I wondered if it was a (non military) award of some sort. I can't see anything online that looks so unadorned and plain as this.  :-\

TBH the "Medal" looks like a fashion accessory from the late 1960's. Sergeant Pepper style. (for those who can remember  ;D )

Hi, you would think if it was any kind of award, either military or Honour's then it would hang from the top of the "Maltese" style cross, I don't think it has any connection at all to the Rising sun cap/***collar insignia.
