1881 census image - Charles GOULDING
« on: Tuesday 05 July 05 00:05 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have access to the actual census image for

Charles GOULDING aged 48, a Brass Founder

living at Wharf St, 2 House 6 Court, Birmingham with wife Ellen and various memebers of the COOK family.

The transcript shows the COOKs as nephews and nieces, though I feel sure they are actually daughter, son in law and grandchildren. I should also like to confirm the age of the elder Henry COOK.

Hi,
1881 census does show them as nephew and niece, you can see the image on Ancestry for free www.ancestry.co.uk

Thanks for the info Pauline.

Unfortunately, I don't currently have a subscription to ancestry. I can see the information screen for free but when I click the "image" icon it takes me to the payment screen.

The image does show all the Cooks as nephew and "neices".

Charles Goulding, head, married, 48, brass founder, born Lincolnshire
Emma Goulding, wife, married, 47, born Herefordshire
Henry Cook, neph, married, 29, toolmaker, born B'ham
Harriet Cook, neice, married, 23, ditto
Ellen Cook, ditto, 8, scholar, ditto
Maryann Cook, ditto, 4, ditto
Henry Cook, nephew, 3m, ditto

For once the handwriting is nice and clear!

Jane

Thanks Jane,
The transcript version gives Henry COOK's age as 49 but 29 sounds much more likely.

I'm sorry I was under the impression that because it says "FREE" that it meant free access to all the info from the 1881 census. A bit misleading isn't it.  I'll know for next time.

It has a few little quirks doesn't it  ::)

For example, if you buy pay-per view units, you can see the complete index info until your time period runs out, even after you've used up all your units.

I have a subscription so I didn't realize that you had to pay to see the 1881  I thought how nice of them to put that on there!
