Peers of Wilmslow or Winsford
« on: Tuesday 05 July 05 03:54 BST (UK) »
I'm searching for gg-grandfather James PEERS - born in either Wilmslow or Winsford, Cheshire, around 1829. (Hard to read records sorry!)  He married Sarah FLETCHER formerly WHARMBY in Heaton Norris in 1851. In 1856 they sailed to New Zealand. It's pre-1851 information I'm seeking.

I wondered if someone could see if he's in the 1841 census?

I'd be tickled pink if someone could help.

Thanks
Bruce Goodman

Hi Bruce
                Welcome to Rootschat

Hopefully you have the 1851 census details you could give us, where was he. Who was his father any other family members ?

Thanks for your reply. The 1851 Census has him living (as yet unmarried) with Sarah Fletcher formerly Wharmby (and her 3 children) at Cheadle Moseley. They were married that same year. The writing on James Peers' census record for his place of origin appears to be either Wilmslow or Winsford. I've spent hours trying to decipher it! His age is given as 26 - which means born around 1825. The mathematical deduction of his age from his death date implies that he was born around 1829 - aged 86 in 1915. One thing is for sure however: it is the same person! I've no idea at all of his parents or siblings. Thanks

Hi
I have found a couple of possibilities for your James family, in to prove or disprove you would have to purchase the marriage certificate in order to obtain the fathers name.

please get back to me

Thanks for your response. I'm not too sure how to go about purchasing the appropriate marriage certificate: being in Quebec and credit-cardless and all that!

I would be interested to hear of the possibilities you may have found in the census records.

James and Sarah Peers' children (that they had together) were John, Joseph amd Mary Ann. I don't know if they were family names or not.

Sorry at the moment I'm not much help with the lack of information I have, but I do appreciate the help you are giving me!

Thanks for your help, Peter. Sorry we couldn't come up with anything definite or possibilities I could look into. I appreciate the time you spent.

 Hi Bruce,

I hope I may be able to help!

I am the great, great, grandson of James Peers (b.1825) who married Sarah Fletcher (nee. Wharmby).

I have been able to gather a lot of info surrounding him and his & Sarah's children which you can see attached to their profiles.

I have been able to get back as far as Hugo Peers (b.1685) on the Peers line.

Here is a link to my tree:

Tony Peers.
