Does anyone have access to the marriage registers of St Peter-the-Great? I've been searching for this marriage for a long time. All I know for certain is that a John Jones (b. Dartford, Kent) m. a Charlotte (b.Wisbech or Ely, Cambridgeshire) and had their first child in Stedham, W. Sussex in 1813. A Charlotte Hareson was christened in Wisbech in 1793, and this is why I want to investigate this marriage (Hareson could easily have become Hearson). The fact that neither bride nor groom came from Chichester won't stop them being described as 'o.t.p.', of course, but I just want to know whether there's anything in the register beyond the bare facts to indicate that this might be my couple. Thanks for reading!  :)

There are no further details on the Sussex Marriage Index.     Date 8 Sep 1811.  botp  However it may be interesting that there is a marriage for Mary Hearson to William Atfield in Stedham on Jan 13 1812 and a John Hearson to Sarah Anderson at St Peter the Great in 1817.

Oh, thank you so much for looking it up. The other Hearson marriages make the Wisbech link sound less likely  :-\

I spent a couple of hours in the Cambridgeshire Record Office today and at least have determined that the name there is 'Charlotte Hareson', which is clearly distinguished from the many Harrisons whose names, written in the same hand, are peppered through those registers.

As far as I can see there are no earlier Hearson marriages in Sussex though so if they were not an established local family where did they come from?   I can't see any Sussex baptisms for them.
Stedham St James has a burial for John Hearson age 43 of Minstead in 1814.
The baptism for Sarah Jones in 1813 shows her father as a papermaker of Minstead.

Yes, John Jones was indeed a papermaker. It's good to know where he was based. I wonder whether there was a paper making industry in or around Chichester.

Hello,
Very interested in your Charlotte Hearson/Hareson/Harrison. From family search I note that she was bap. 30th Sep 1793 to John & Mary Hareson, and was hoping for a suitably large gap in the Harrison's to indicate that this might have been a mis-transcription. However the baptism of Judith Harrison on 16th Jan 1794, and your comment that all entries were clearly written by the same person, seems to throw water on that hope. I was also interested to read that you mention Sarah Jones, the first of their 10 (as far as I know) children, and I'm hoping that you are descended from one of these.

Hi
I'm trying to research John Hearson b.1771 who died in Stedham Sussex in 1814.
I think John Hearson who married Sarah Anderson in Chichester in 1817 may be one of his children, but can't find any birth records.
If so, I would be really grateful if anyone can help me find other children born to john Hearson in Stedham or Chichester or thereabouts between 1791 and 1810

Just realised this is an old thread so will repost as a new thread.
