William Burgess and his family were moved from Northam Devon to Ilfracombe
Devon in 1778. Can anyone help with where the family then went.
Thankyou

hello joan

if the family were moved institutionally (to a workhouse for instance) there may be records of some sort and if you know the children's names and approximate dates of birth of the family then there may be parish records of marriages and deaths within the family if they stayed for a long enough period. it's a very long shot but you never know.

Hi,

It looks as if William Burgess was unable to support himself & family, and so they
were removed from  Northam to the place of his birth Ilfracombe,

Have found this record on North Devon Record Office site, is this where you obtained
your information from?:-

1778
William Burgess, Mary his wife and Mary and Prudence their children removed from Northam to Ilfracombe.

The only Prudence Burgess I can find a Christening for is the daughter of William Burgess &
Margaret  15th June 1776 Northam Devon.

Mary  30 July 1774 Northam                  Dau of William & Margaret Burgess
Betty  2nd September 1778 Northam       "         "                 "             "

This couple married 26 July 1773 Northam   William Burgess = Margaret Winch

Are the above who you are looking for - but is the wife's name Mary or Margaret?
