Lists of Scottish baptisms
« on: Thursday 12 February 15 16:51 GMT (UK) »
I have a doc from Scotlandspeople, via an OPR, which is a list of all the baptisms of a family:
John Fame of Kype and his children
John was baptised Jan 9 1717
Margret               Apr 23 1732
etc.
8 children, one father (no mother listed), covering 21 years.
What is this doc? It not a simple baptism record (of one person). It is not the baptism of a whole family. What family event triggered its creation?

It is not unusual to find the baptisms of several children in a family recorded at once, together on the same page of a register. Sometimes, where the baptism of a child/children had not been recorded at the time, the neglected entries were written in when a subsequent child was baptised. Where you see this most often is in 1854, the year before the beginning of statutory birth certificates.
