Hi,

Have you found Annie on any census?  Does her birthplace always appear as Middlesbrough?

When did she marry?

The only Annie Wilks, of the right age, living around Middlesbrough in 1881 is this one?

Class: RG11; Piece: 4854; Folio: 18; Page: 2
5 Spencer Street, Linthorpe, Middlesbrough

Wilks, Harris  Head  M  25  Glazier  b Russian Poland
Wilks, Etta  Wife  F  26  b Russian Poland
Wilks, Annie  Daughter  F  4  b Russian Poland
Wilks, Wolfe  Son  M  2  b Middlesbrough
Wilks, Israel  Son  M  11 months  b Middlesbrough

I'm not saying this is definitely her, but it's a big coincidence? ;D

if she had been illigitimate her father would not have been on marriage cert

That does not necessarily follow. The information on the certificate is what has been given by the couple, there is no check to see if it is correct.
