The individual in question was automatically granted British Citizenship, as Parent(s) were already such ....

You don't give a date but British Subject means his parents were British, (or at least his father was) and even though he was born abroad he was also a British Subject. British Nationality Act, 1772. http://www.uniset.ca/naty/BNA1772.htm
