Eric Hudson Lithgow Shore, Barry, Glamorgan.
« on: Thursday 19 February 15 17:33 GMT (UK) »
Eric Hudson Lithgow Shore who's wartime address was 31 The Parade, Barry, Glamorgan was a Pilot Offier pilot of 501 Squadron Spitfire AA 837.  He was shot down north of Ste Mère Eglise France 4th November 1941.  Eric Shore became on of the leading figures of  “Dean and Dawson” the forgery department of Stalag Luft III that made the documents for the “Wooden Horse” escapees.  For this he received the MBE in 1946.

My father Walter Layne and Eric Shore were prisoners together in Stalag Luft III sharing the same cell block.

Here is a drawing Shore did of my father.

I am trying to find a WARTIME picture of each of the 50 prisoners named in my father's "Wartime Log"  So far I have 23 and am hopeful that someone can help me make it 24 by supplying a picture of Eric Shore.  My efforts so far (which includes's a picture of Shore's shot down Spitfire) can be seen here.  https://wallyswar.wordpress.com/other-pows/

With thanks, David Layne.

There is a tree on Anc.. which apparently has a photo of EHL Shores marriage in 1946 but the tree is private.  However the owner of the tree has not signed on for 4 months.

He died in 2006 in Devon.  Will try to see if there were any children of his marriage.

No children that I can easily see.  Will check to see if he had any siblings.  His parents were William Lithgow Shore and Minnie Templeton McEachern.  They married in 1911 and appear together on the census of that year.

Brother - Stanley Douglas Lithgow Shore (1912 - 2004).  Can't see a marriage.
Sister - possible marriage in 1940 to Mr Wilson.  Possible daughter born in 1944.

There is a lovely obit for him here http://www.dsgc.co.uk/about-us/club-history/46-club-news-2000s  I am not having much luck finding family for him, but perhaps getting in touch with the gliding club might yield some results?
