lost 1841 and 1851
« on: Friday 20 February 15 11:48 GMT (UK) »
I have lost John Ayre born 1813 Exeter on the 1841 and 1851 censuses I also can not find his son James born about 1841 Crediton

Known he married  Grace Perkin in 1843 in Crediton
Grace is on the 1851 census HO107/1887 fo131 p 4 sch 22 as is James but he is a visitor (Sch 18)
John married Catherine Cowley nee Sammon in 1859
He is on the 1861 census RG9/2174 fo100 p19 with Catherine and his children including James

Where was John in 1841 and 1851?

Caution he is NOT the John who married Ann Chapple
I have seen the name as Eyre and Ayres

Hope some one can see where he is hiding
Thank you

Grace Perkins 2
James Perkins  4 months
Eliz    Perkins   1
I was going to say - 2, 1 & 4 months is pretty tough... ;)

There is a baptism in 1819 in Crediton of a Grace Perkins to Mark & Ann

ADDED: What was John's marital status on marriage in 1843? Might a 1st wife being alive have prevented them marrying before James' birth?

I wonder if that little Grace was named after her aunt Grace Ayre nee Perkin. Were the three children with Ann cousins rather than siblings
I'm afraid i haven't seen the marriage record only the BMD entry so I don't know John's marital state. I relate to John's next wife through her mother's second marriage so they are not that close.
The Charles Robert Ayre has an interesting story both he and brother John go to Canada and become notable hoteliers but Charles married one girl and went to Canada with her sister  :o Its an interesting story  to follow and this was /is a loose end to tidy up.
Kay that is what I wondered too they are in an odd order aren't they they usually go in age unless its two families here ao Grace and James are siblings and Eliz a cousin Or as you question is the Grace the mother of James and aunt of Eliz if she was baptised in 1819 as Joesy found ahe would be down as 20 ao easy to miss the 0. I don't think the 1 and 4month children can be from the same mother its just too quick can't see registration for them  ???  ??? Again when you look at the census Ann. Grace and James are bracketed together not Eliz and there is a small slash before Eliz which usually indicates a diferent household in the same house (you ofter see it before lodgers or in a shared house before the next head of family. All making me think Eliz is from a different mother.
